IDENTITY

The concept of identity is conceptually complex; identity is a vague and flexible term that is employed in a variety of circumstances and for a variety of reasons, making definition and expression exceedingly challenging. This term identity has contradicting meanings within the word itself. Identity is derived from the Latin root idem, which mean "the same." When translated, this term has two meanings: similar and different. In another perspective, the fundamental definition of identity refers to where one (a person or a group) belongs, and what is expressed as "self-image" or/and "common-image," what integrates them into self or group existence, and what distinguishes them from "others." As a result, the concept of identity is determined by addressing the issues of "How I see myself and how other people see me," as well as "What I want to be and the influences, pressures, and opportunities that are available."

The group exhibition features a total of 26 artists, including national artist, renowned artists, and emerging artists: Panya Vijinthanasarn (National Artist), Sompop Budtarad, Thongchai Srisukprasert, Alongkorn Lauwatthana, Thongmai Thepram ,Jarun Panonta, Sriputcharin Rittirut, M.L. Jakrapol Rajani, Jakkee Kongkaew, Phruek Tomuenwai, Natee Anuntapadit, Poon Amornchorn, Anchalee Arayapongpanit,, Kodsoung Eangubon, Tan Kositpipat, Wunnisa Thamanasart, Wanda Chaima, Sirirath Chumyen, Supatchar Rojanavanij, Suviwat Wanarom, Nidchakan Kongsawad, Wirat Eakpatcha, Anusorn Praneerachlert (Manzood), Akkarawut Rojakkanawut, Benjamat Bangluang, and Tudpong Outayamagul. They are artists who, at some point in their lives, sought to carve out a unique identity in response to powerful ideas and forces around them. It is natural that artists' sources of inspiration could shift as they work. However, the artist's ongoing work is a direct result of the concealed beliefs and influences from their own life experiences that permeate the work's individuality.

Join us for the opening ceremony of the "IDENTITY" exhibition on Friday, May 10, 2024, with registration starting at 2:00 PM and the event commencing at 3:00 PM. The exhibition will be open for viewing from May 11 - June 2, 2024, at Temporary Exhibition 1 and 2, G Floor, MOCA BANGKOK.
