“Kom Hem” an emotional journey expressed through a selection of ceramic works by Korean artist Jooeun Han, for whom their pristine, white surfaces serve as a "canvas of the heart" where his feelings, coaxed out of the deep, are inscribed.
For homesickness— a yearning for sanctuary and warmth— is the thread that ripples through Han's body of work, which not only tells stories that bridge culture and the personal memories of an artist whose life is caught between the distinct cultures of South Korea and Northern Europe. Han perceives everyday objects with the gaze of an artist. Things that are a dime a dozen— shoes, music boxes, crosses, tea pots, household items, glimpses of life through the windows of alleyways in Sweden— are fashioned into new memories harbored in simple forms flush with meaning that bring him joy and inner peace, while offering comfort and creative inspiration to each viewer and their imagination.
Jooeun transforms organic material, clay, into a vessel of happiness and love to bring home and create an intentional space complete with a cue to rest . "A soft moment— to breathe, to think, to remember." Han's sculptures point out the little joys in life, and say, in a gentle whisper, "let’s go home".
