Richard Koh Fine Art is pleased to present Mountains of Awareness, a solo exhibition by Thai artist Chatmongkol Insawang, on view from 10 to 31 May 2025 at RKFA Bangkok. This exhibition showcases a new body of work that reflects the artist’s introspective exploration of memory, the human body, and the impermanence of life.
In this series, Insawang draws upon vivid childhood memories of landscapes, particularly the image of mountains, which serve as symbolic anchors and emotional touchstones. These landscapes, deeply embedded in the artist’s memory, become the starting point for a meditative inquiry into perception and existence. The mountains are reimagined as mutable forms—constantly shifting in appearance yet persistently present—evoking the human body as a landscape that reveals itself through time and space.
Charcoal powder, the primary material used in this body of work, underscores themes of impermanence and transformation. Its fragile and elemental qualities serve as a metaphor for the human condition, highlighting the inseparable connections between the body, nature, and the passage of time. Insawang’s creative process emerges from the rhythmic act of mark-making, rooted in focused meditation, allowing instinct and emotion to guide the creation.
Through these works, the artist offers a deeply personal visual language that transcends literal representation. His drawings invite viewers into a contemplative space of quiet introspection, reflecting uncertainty while simultaneously opening a realm for mindfulness amidst the currents of contemporary life.
