This exhibition, featuring the work of Myanmar artist Lily, stands in solidarity with the people of Myanmar who have been fighting for democracy since the coup d’état in 2021. Over the past five years, countless people have been killed, arrested, or displaced, yet the call for freedom has never ceased. . The series showcases photographs of women artists who became part of women artists as part of the Burmese Spring Revolution, working professionally while serving as “voices often forgotten” in the documentation of these historic struggles. These women stood at the frontlines, confronting violence and risking their lives to reveal the truth to the world. The exhibition draws inspiration from a line of the writer Virginia Woolf: “For most of history, anonymous was a woman”. The exhibition “Portraits of the Anonymous” serves both as a tribute and as a powerful challenge to gender bias, making visible the critical role of women artists in shaping history.
