cordially invites you to the exhibition: "Rak See" — Lacquer Color Paintings

“Rak See” or lacquer color painting is a distinctive art form found in Asia, particularly in Thailand. It involves mixing pigment powder with clear lacquer sap to create colors resembling oil paint. Artists often add details using black lacquer outlines, gold or silver leaf, and build up multiple overlapping layers. Once dry, the surface is polished to reveal the depth and texture of the layers.

Despite its cultural significance, access to traditional materials and techniques is limited due to high costs and the need to import certain components. This research project aims to develop more accessible and affordable alternatives. The exhibition presents over 90 lacquer artworks created using these materials, alongside informative displays on the process, tools, and innovations.

We hope visitors will gain insight into this unique technique, enjoy the artworks, and be inspired to support its continued practice and preservation.
