“Saddest Princess on Planet No. 4: The Staged Reading” is a stage reading adapted from youth literature “Princess” by Binlah Sonkalagiri, recipient of the S.E.A Write Award (South East Asian Writers Award) in 2002. The play is a reimagined theatrical piece that captivates and brings the essence of the original narrative to life on stage.
This theatrical piece takes the form of a stage reading, where actors need not adorn costumes or intricate sets. They simply hold the script and move within the space, reading their lines with fresh genuine emotions as they rely on the connections between the audience and the performers. Moreover, it’s an experimental theatrical blend, merging the art of storytelling, theater, and film with live musical performances. Following this performance, the narrative of “Saddest Princess on Planet No.4” will also be adapted into a film with M’Go Films (Singapore).
