The Power of Small

A group exhibition that brings back the tradition of the Salon to present a panoramic view of the Thai contemporary art scene. Shoulder-to-shoulder, small-sized pieces by around 60 artists are exhibited in the salon style. Rarely do the works of such a diverse spectrum of artists, from emerging talents to established names, share the same walls and, on this occasion, pay collective homage to the great resonance of small artworks.

From our roster are artists already working at extremes of scale, such as rising artist Subannakrit Krikum, whose miniature paintings put a contemporary spin on the Thai mural painting tradition. A deep interest in a particular subject or cause have led others to retool unconventional materials for their artistic practice: for example, renowned artist Manit Sriwanichpoom unveils social and cultural commentary on metal prints. Jarupatcha Achavasmit’s shimmering textiles woven of recycled metals– showcased in this exhibition is a piece of wearable art made of silver and copper– are informed by a commitment to environmental sustainability, as is Yanawit Kunchaethong’s organic printmaking techniques. A glimpse of each artist’s unique niche in the local contemporary art landscape, this exhibition has something for everyone, each artwork is as captivating as the one before

In “The Power of Small”, close quarters play up unexpected connections and juxtapositions across a selection that represents artists of different generations and a diverse range of mediums and styles, offering a glimpse of a burgeoning scene through the intimate lens of small works of art.
