'This page is intentionally left _____.',
🗓 13 June 2025 - 17 Aug 2025
📍5th Floor, Bangkok Kunsthalle
curated by Yoonglai Collective.
‘This page is intentionally left _____.’ exhibition by Yoonglai Collective creates an open forum for co-creating a contemporary dictionary through installations of printed texts, illustrations, and participatory authorship on the 5th floor of Bangkok Kunsthalle—a contemporary art space in the heart of Yaowarat.
At the center of the exhibition stands the “Editorial Room (Staff Only).” Although its name may imply exclusivity, the room invites every visitor to step in and ask questions. Housing archival documents including materials on language and cultural change, it features an ongoing collaborative dictionary where visitors can help shape new definitions. Rather than focusing on “old dictionaries and the old printing house,” the exhibition encourages its visitors to explore new possibilities. As the organizer leaves the meaning of this old printing house and its publications open, all visitors are welcome to define these subjects together.
This exhibition truly functions like an experiment that reconfigures the space and memories of the building that once served as the headquarters of Thai Watana Panich printing house, an institution central to the production of Thai textbooks and dictionaries for decades before its eventual transformation into Bangkok Kunsthalle, a contemporary art venue that eschews definitive meanings or fixed definitions. Instead, this art space now invites audiences to “make sense” of this blank page: to listen to unheard voices, to read what has never been written, and to reimagine the former printing press and its publications to create new possibilities.
Designed as a “process,” this exhibition by Yoonglai Collective allows ever-changing outcomes. As this group of editors reject fixed frameworks, their multidisciplinary collaboration across art, research, Southeast Asian history and technology has fostered new dialogues between people, language and space. The exhibition brings together three Thai artists, whose meaningful works cover text, sound,
printed images and installation art. Each artist takes on a distinct role in the process, contributing unique perspectives to the exhibition’s evolving conversation.
Nat Setthana: Displaying his photos and VDO clips of Bangkok, this artist has transformed the upper floor of the architectural remnants into a “Hyper Site” weaving narratives through the remnants of language and the passage of time.
Anusorn Tunyapalit: An interdisciplinary artist from Phrae, he uses sound, Braille and poetry in exploring the building as site of linguistic and mnemonic confinement.
Theetat Thunkijjanukij: This artist investigates the printing industry, the reproduction of printed matter, the implications of reprinting, the erasure of originals and the ambiguous value of replicas.
