What does it take to make that steaming perfect white rice plated in front of you?
‘Weevils in Rice’ is the latest solo exhibition by Kanokwan Sutthang, whose practice usually attends to the smallest mundane things overlooked by most. This time she invites us to investigate the tension between the organic and the industrial, through an observation of ‘weevil,’ a small beetle naturally thrives in rice, but considered a disruptive agent by human definition, challenging our hyper-obsession with cleanliness and always leading to systematic processes of eliminations.
With sincere gentle gesture, the exhibition invites us to question the politics of exclusions and proposes a negotiation for coexistence with what is perceived antagonistic.
