Not Alone – Now Myanmar Rose’s screams can be heard and seen…
Myanmar Rose, a Burmese woman, tells her painful experience of being trafficked and sexually assaulted through her artworks. Her heartbreaking works are now on display in the exhibition “กรรมกุหลาบ" “The Scream that Needs to be Heard (and Seen) all around the World” at PLACEMAK BKK from March 21 to April 29, 2023.
“กรรมกุหลาบ” is an exhibition that continues from International Women's Day, which was organized on March 8, 2023 at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center (BACC) for everyone who could not attend International Women's Day. To speak up for young women around the world about the violence that happens every day.
When she was a slave in China, the only people who could hear the screams of Myanmar Rose were the ones causing her to scream. Now, for International Women’s Day on 8th March, the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC) hosts Myanmar Rose’s first-ever art exhibition. From there, her screams will be heard (and seen) all around the world.
The gut-wrenching story of Myanmar Rose, who was sold into slavery at the age of 14, highlights it is not just men who facilitate this terrible crime… that sometimes women participate in it, profit from it, and turn a blind eye to it even when it is right in front of them.

Myanmar Rose’s story also reminds us that, given the chance, somehow, a woman who has been betrayed, trafficked, enslaved, repeatedly raped, hit every day, can escape – and become a living testament to the will of woman.
At Myanmar Rose’s art show, you will be surrounded by the pain of suicidal despair, the horror inhuman injustice, the worst of humanity at its worst… and you will also be uplifted by the triumph of the spirit of woman…. bravery, determination, grit, creative blossoming…Where else would you want to be on International Women’s Day than to be surrounded by all this?
This year YOU can stand as a living testament to Myanmar Rose that now she is NOT ALONE. Now she can be heard.
