Thru the Straits of Demos

'Thru the Straits of Demos' comprises a new series of photography-installations by Thai artist Kornkrit Jianpinidnan in conjunction with the unveiling of volumes 19, 20, and 21 in his long-running project and photobook series 'POEM'.

As the new trio of photobooks take viewers on travels through Lumphini Park, the Isthmus of Kra, and everyday life amidst the humdrum of pandemic lockdowns, the artist’s photography-installations that reframe photographs from his books intervene into gallery’s space, inviting further interactions with the images. Where Jianpinidnan’s 'POEM' series of photobooks follows in the poetic tradition of Nirat, conveying sentiments of love-longing and wanderlust, his installations quarry the liminal space between the public and private sphere – at each turn arriving at an integration of both inner and outer realms of experience.
