This book tells the story of a little boy, prince of a tiny planet (asteroid B 612), who is bored. His only friend is a pretty rose and he feels sad. He then decides to explore other planets to make friends. He will then meet during his trip the inhabitants of other asteroids whom he will find "weird": a king, a vain man, a businessman, a lamplighter, a geographer, etc. - each being perceived as an allegory of human nature -, until his arrival on Earth where he will first meet a fox, who will teach him that "to know, you have to "tame", which makes things and men unique, then an aviator, who is none other than the author, who fell with his plane in the middle of the Sahara desert. The little Prince appears to him while he is trying to repair his plane, asking him to draw a sheep for him.
