ÉCHO du SILENCE

Solo Exhibition by Nattan Kongmalikankaew

“…Mystery, concealment, and ambiguity awaken the human urge to question what is before us—while at the same time enveloping us in a quiet anxiety toward the unknown. It is as though we are confronted with delicate, complex circumstances that demand both decision and introspection, forcing us to steady our emotions along the way…”

— Nattan Kongmalikankaew

In “ÉCHO du SILENCE: The Resonance of Silence,” Nattan invites viewers into an enigmatic spiritual landscape—a realm where the external world and the inner psyche converge. His paintings dismantle the boundary between reality and imagination, revealing the emotional states of confronting the unfamiliar and the uncertainty that permeates life.

One of the most compelling aspects of this exhibition lies in the artist’s significant transformation: from earlier works that placed the human body at the center of confinement and personal suffering (2020–2021), to a visual language where nature becomes both protagonist and psychological mirror. Nuttan’s landscapes are not mere backdrops, but entities in themselves—manifestations of memory, identity, and the unseen forces that shape existence.

Positioned on the threshold between the Sublime—beauty charged with awe and fear—and the uncanny logic of Surrealism, Nuttan has developed his own visual vocabulary. The result is an Eco-Surrealist language, contemporary yet resonant with art historical echoes.

The first question that arises when encountering Nattan’s work is:

Are we the observers, or are we being observed?

The viewer may find they are not simply looking at forests, meadows, or sky, but entering an unnamed territory that compels us to ask:

Is this nature an incomprehensible force—or the memory of ourselves?

Through delicate strokes and intricate textures of foliage, wind, and light, these paintings evoke a soft-sublime beauty that is both somber and gentle. They envelop the viewer in a meditative atmosphere, inviting us to explore the emotional terrain between the tangible and the intangible—and to embrace the unknown with quiet sensitivity.

an is among a younger generation of artists who are revitalizing the traditional genre of landscape painting, transforming it into a contemporary vocabulary that is contemplative, poetic, and deeply emotional.

ÉCHO du SILENCE will be on view from December 7, 2025 to January 11, 2026 at Joyman Gallery, Bangkok (1st Floor).
