This film screening program is presented as part of MO NU ME NT S, a solo exhibition by Som Supaparinya, curated by Gridthiya Gaweewong. The exhibition investigates the legacies of the Cold War and critically examines the roles of media, development, and ideology that continue to shape contemporary social landscapes. Som Supaparinya’s practice explores media as a structure of power, interrogating how images, films, books, and information are produced, circulated, and controlled within political and historical contexts.
Jim Thompson Art Center in collaboration with the Han Nefkens Foundation, under the Southeast Asian Video Art Production Grant, and with support from the Thai Film Archive (Public Organization), this public educational film screening program aims to deepen audiences’ understanding of the artist’s working process and the exhibition’s core themes. The film program expands these inquiries by revisiting selected works by Som Supaparinya alongside other carefully curated films that reflect, extend, and question the mechanisms of media, historical memory, and the power to define meaning in the modern world
