“I will be missing you... Pla Too Thai” Exhibition
Presented by Pongpan Suriya-phat, artist and architect specializing in museum design, this exhibition opens a space for reflection on the relationship between humans and nature through the disappearance of the Pla Too—a once-abundant mackerel in Thai waters, now a symbol of ecological crisis under the pressures of industrial capitalism and climate change.
This exhibition is part of a project supported by The Pulitzer Center (USA), inspired by investigative journalism by Aidan Jones, whose report "Thailand’s Favorite Fish Is Vanishing; Our Appetite is To Blame" was funded by the Ocean Reporting Network. The exhibition aims to raise awareness and stimulate dialogue around the environmental and socio-economic issues driving the decline of the Thai mackerel population.
The show features diverse creative works by four artists: Awika Samaksaman, Prasart Nirunpraser, Satit Raksasri, and Witchukorn Tangpaiboon, and also includes the screening of the documentary film “Taleh Na Ban” (“The Sea in Front of Our Home”) by Pisuth Sreemoak, which shares stories from coastal communities in Songkhla province.
Visitors are invited to join the opening event on May 10, 2025, at Art4C Art Centre, where a live art performance by Witchukorn Tangpaiboon will be held. The event will also welcome local community leaders from traditional fishing groups to share their experiences advocating for reforms to Section 69 of the Thai Fisheries Act.
The exhibition “I will be missing you… Pla Too Thai” is not only a tribute to what is being lost but also an invitation for viewers to reconsider their roles in this chain of change—and to ask: Can we truly hear the voice of the sea and reimagine a new, sustainable relationship with it?
