A new arts and culture tourism route linking the Grand Palace area in Bangkok with Koh Kerd was inaugurated on 12 August 2026. This route improves public access and offers Thai and international visitors more opportunities to experience Thailand’s artistic and cultural heritage.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports, through the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), is partnering with the Foundation for the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother (the SUPPORT Foundation), and the project’s working committee to promote the sustainable development of Koh Kerd.
Koh Kerd, home to many of Thailand’s most significant artistic treasures and traditional crafts, is a culturally important destination poised for greater national and international recognition.
More Than a Tourism Route
“Koh Kerd: The Living Legacy of Thai Craftsmanship” offers visitors more than the opportunity to view completed masterpieces. It provides insight into the stories, creative processes, rigorous training, and exceptional precision behind Thailand’s traditional arts and crafts.
These artistic disciplines require time, dedication, and highly specialised knowledge passed down through generations. The initiative enables visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the artisans, skills, and cultural foundations behind some of Thailand’s finest works of art.
The project also honours the royal vision of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, whose lifelong commitment preserved Thai craftsmanship, created employment, generated income, and improved the quality of life for artisans, their families, and communities.
Her Majesty recognised that traditional craftsmanship is not only artistic expression but also a source of dignity, opportunity, and sustainable livelihood. Through the SUPPORT Foundation, generations of artisans have received training and support, enabling rare skills and knowledge to endure and evolve.
Travel Information
From the Grand Palace area to three key cultural attractions at Koh Kerd, Ayutthaya: the All About Khon Learning Centre, the Arts of the Kingdom Museum, and the Borom Mangalanusarani Pavilion.
The inaugural tourism programme and complimentary shuttle service will operate from 12 August to 26 December 2026, every Wednesday through Sunday. One complimentary 50-seat shuttle will operate each day of service.
Departure from Bangkok: 11.00 a.m. from Na Phra Lan Road, opposite Wiman Thewet Gate, on the Silpakorn University side. Passengers are requested to check in by 10.30 a.m.
Return from Koh Kerd at 3.30 p.m. from the Arts of the Kingdom Museum, with estimated arrival at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal between 4.30 and 5.00 p.m.
