MATDOT Art Center proudly presents Matter Life & Geometrical Explorations, a solo exhibition by a European born, American artist Santiago Zarzosa, currently artist-in-residence at MATDOT Art Center. The exhibition brings together two interconnected bodies of work that reflect Zarzosa’s ongoing exploration of duality, perception, and structure.

In the Matter Life series, Zarzosa examines the physical and symbolic forces of gravity and energy through large-scale abstract paintings. Layers of poured pigment descend across the canvas, merging fluidity and density, spontaneity and control. The artist interprets these material encounters as a metaphor for the coexistence of masculine and feminine energies—forces that oppose, attract, and ultimately complete one another.

In contrast, the Geometrical Explorations series offers a meditative investigation into order and intuition. Working with graphite, charcoal, and watercolour, Zarzosa constructs delicate frameworks where precise, ruler-drawn geometry meets the improvisational freedom of hand-drawn gestures. The resulting works map mental and emotional space, where measured thought and instinctive movement coexist in subtle equilibrium.

Together, these two series form a compelling dialogue between matter and mind, weight and line, the visible and the imagined. Zarzosa invites viewers to enter a world where form becomes experience, and perception itself becomes the subject of inquiry.
