Music Appreciation Program
Between March – July 2024

The Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, in collaboration with Yamaha Music School, presents the Music Appreciation Program—a series of talks and listening sessions designed to ignite interest, create knowledge, and enhance understanding of various music aspects. The program covers diverse music types, including songwriting, orchestration, jazz, and classical genres. Each session comprises a talk followed by listening, aiming to improve music appreciation skills and understanding of non-mainstream music's vital role in everyday life. The program seeks to enable the audience to deepen their understanding of musical aesthetics. Expert speakers from various music fields will facilitate each activity, sharing knowledge and engaging stories. Sessions will explore connections between music and the arts, culminating in live performances. All activities are open for free participation.


The Art of Songwriting
Wednesday 6 March 2024 from 13.00 hrs. onwards
Venue : Multi-function Room, 1st Floor, BACC

A songwriting workshop and masterclass led by Berklee College of Music, a world-class institution in the field of music education. The speakers will share their expertise and experiences in navigating the career paths of songwriters and composers in the music industry. Additionally, successful alumni from the school will be invited to share their accomplishments.

Remark: The session will be in English.


The Art of Orchestration
Saturday 20 April 2024 from 15.00 – 17.00 hrs.
Venue : Auditorium, 5th Floor, BACC

Unlock the secrets of music orchestration in films and animations to elevate the cinematic experience. Explore how soundtracks across various entertainment media evoke emotions and enhance content with a diverse palette of sound colors. Join the Electone Ensemble, comprised of selected Yamaha Music Students, as they delve into the intricate relationship between music and visual storytelling.


Getting into Jazz
Sunday 9 June 2024 from 15.00 – 17.00 hrs.
Venue : Multi-function Room, 1st Floor, BACC

A beginner’s guide to jazz music: Explore various types of jazz music, their history, and differences. Learn to enjoy listening to jazz music through a curated listening list by the speakers, followed by a live jazz performance.


Classical Music and Art
Saturday 6 July 2024 from 15.00 – 17.00 hrs.
Venue : Yamaha Music Hall, Siam Patumwan House

Aiming to transform the audience's perception of classical music as difficult to access, this discussion focuses on imparting knowledge on how to appreciate classical music for its aesthetic qualities. Additionally, it explores the connection between classical music and works of art, curated by the musicians, and accompanied by a live music performance.
