A collection of local artists and musicians are staging a free-to-exhibit event at BKK Collective Creative Space as a rebellion against the practice of predatory artist submission fees and gallery commissions. The exhibition and the groups’ mission combats the growing trend of fee-based barriers to entry that target and extort local amateur artists seeking to bring their work to the public. The exhibition will bring together a wide variety of visual arts and music, so there is sure to be something for everyone. “This exhibition is proof that you can put on a show without charging the artists a cent!” says artist and event organizer Ben Robinson. “For up-and-coming amateur artists who want to break into the art scene in Bangkok and beyond, this exhibition gives them an alternative pathway for showing that doesn’t involve fees or commissions to show, which hold back artists. Just like the Impressionists who bypassed the Paris Salon, we are saying ‘We don't need your permission!’”
