The "Where Spirits Dwell" series is rooted in the philosophical concept that all things possess a spirit. Ding's art transforms creatures often overlooked or disappeared from our daily environment, such as insects, animals, and ghosts, into vehicles for examining human emotions. Her unique vision draws influences from fairy tales, literature, psychology, surrealist paintings, as well as Buddhism and Taoism.
The stories in Ding’s work are deeply personal, born from her own experiences, feelings, expectations, and fears of love, leading her on what she describes as a "lonely journey of psychological healing". Ding begins almost every piece with a gender-unknown figure in pajamas, symbolizing the beginning of a dream and the start of the subconscious. Through the process of creating and learning, she finds an expression of her mental anxiety, which allows her spirit to strengthen. The resulting work conveys universal feelings of loneliness, anxiety, fear and love.
A special one-day event, "TattoOasis," combining the art of Chinese artist Ding Min with the tattooing practice of frog ritual (aka anxiety storage). Visitors are invited to view Ding Min's solo exhibition, "Where Spirits Dwell," and have the opportunity to receive a tattoo from frog ritual as a way to integrate the exhibition's themes into personal body art.
