CRAFTED compares art to a carefully crafted flavour: fine ingredients alone are not enough. It takes choosing well, balancing well, and knowledge refined over time to reach the essence of a work. Like a drop of art meeting the eye, the first impression is bold, then softness and depth slowly come through. What stays is an impression that lingers long after viewing.
The exhibition brings together more than 149 works by Thai masters and leading artists, including rare masterpieces sought by collectors around the world. Highlights include:
“Phaya Pali Prap Torapi” (1971) by Thawan Duchanee, a defining painting from the start of the artist’s golden period. He narrowed his palette to gold leaf, vermilion, deep blue and black lacquer, and used newly invented ornamental patterns to stage a powerful battle from the Ramakien.
One of the last works by Sompote Upa-In, made before his death in 2014. It overlays a female figure with surreal anatomy and a dreamlike vision of life after death.
“Chicken Fight” (2004) by Prayat Pongdam, a one-of-a-kind engraved woodblock painted with colour and gold leaf.
“Miraculous Vehicles” (1992) by Chalermchai Kositpipat, from the artist’s mature period. Its celestial vehicles stand for a mind refined toward liberation.
“Untitled” (1969) by M.C. Marsi Sukhumbhand Paribatra, made in Paris during her period of experiment. It draws on the Renaissance before her own surrealist style took shape.
“New Things Happen When We Move On” (2024) by SUNTUR, a minimal landscape with tiny figures that tells of the complexity of human relationships.
There is also the WHEN COFFEE MEETS ART collection by BENZILLA. Through seven characters, it traces the journey of craft coffee from the cherry to the roast. The set of 7 is auctioned for charity, with no auction fees. All proceeds go toward renovating public playgrounds for children and families in the community.
The exhibition is free to visit and ends with an auction on its final day.
