"SUDO RUNGU : Echoes of Fire" is the first solo exhibition in Thailand by Indonesian contemporary artist Roby Dwi Antono, curated by Loredana Pazzini Paracciani. Through painting, drawing, photography, video and participatory art, the exhibition explores memory, loss and the bonds between generations.
The exhibition draws on the artist's childhood memories of his father, a blacksmith, surrounded by the sound of hammers and smoke from the forge. "Sudo Rungu" is a Javanese term for hearing loss, reflecting the effect of decades spent working amid the clang of metal.
The exhibition unfolds in three sections: Arang (Charcoal), Bara (Embers) and Abu (Ash). Highlights include "Ritual Arang", which invites visitors to leave their own marks in charcoal on canvas, and "Residurungu", a 9-metre-long painting that conveys the artist's memories of his father.
