Vital Emergence

By Liu Caiyuan, Thai name Yos Hirun Jetthongchue, a Chinese student pursuing a doctoral degree in Thailand

“Vital Emergence” refers to a state in which life force gradually reveals itself through continuous transformation and renewal.

For me, creativity is not a straight path that moves forward continuously, but a process that constantly faces tension and conflict, whether between "tradition" and "contemporaneity" or between inherited cultural experiences and the visual language of the present. Therefore, my work moves in a cycle of deconstruction and reconfiguration.

This process is not just about understanding and carrying on the original spirit, but also about transforming old forms to create new meanings.

When working in a cross-cultural context, symbols, visual systems, and ways of perception from different cultures converge and interact. Creativity is no longer confined to any single framework but develops through negotiation, reflection, and continuous synthesis. Rather than seeking fixed answers, this process allows forms and meanings to gradually change, generating new energy and life both visually and conceptually.

Therefore, 'Vital Emergence' is not an endpoint but a state that is constantly unfolding, reflecting how artistic work grows through tension and uncertainty, and opens space for personal experiences, cultural memories, and contemporary consciousness to coexist and continually create new possibilities.
